NBC CT Live! - Passport To Connecticut Wine Country
The Connecticut Department of Agriculture launched their new Passport to Connecticut Wine Country APP! (Insert “there’s an app for that” joke here) so Taylor Kinzler & I headed out to the absolutely beautiful Heartstone Farm & Winery in Columbia to celebrate!
Walt, Nancy, and farm pup Rupert were absolutely wonderful hosts and we had an amazing visit! My personal favorite wine was the Frontenac Gris, with a special shout out to the Strawberry Rhubarb and Sangiovese. You can shop and learn more about Heartstone Farm & Winery here.
Heartstone is just one of the 45 licensed farm wineries in Connecticut! 35 of those participate in the Passport to Connecticut Wine Country program. To participate, farm wineries must use at least 25% Connecticut Grown product in their wines. There are several awesome features in the new app including 7 wine trails, events, a photo booth, deals, and a “Nearby’ button that will show you the closest wineries to you! Don’t forget to virtually “stamp” your passport while you are visiting a winery, you will be entered to win a prize with each stamp!
Passport to Connecticut Wine Country is a program of the Connecticut Farm Wine Development Council (CFWDC). CFWDC is a voluntary council administered by the Connecticut Department of Agriculture, to market licensed farm wineries wishing to participate. Besides the popular Passport, the council provides education for the wineries annually and operates a successful wine booth in the Connecticut Building at the Big E each fall.
