Each Thursday from 3-6 PM on the Durham town green you can find goodies from farm fresh vegetables to honey, fresh baked breads, kettle corn, lemonade, gluten-free empanadas, Italian ice, dog treats, spices, fruit, pickled veggies & MORE!

The market typically hosts over 20 vendors, making it an event everyone can enjoy. There were pups, kids, and even a pig enjoying the market! There are only two weeks left to visit the fall market. This session will end with a Halloween-themed market on October 27th. Follow the Durham Farmers’ Market on Facebook for updates on their Winter Market!

Is Durham too much of a hike for you? Don’t worry! Our state has over 100 Farmers’ Markets! Find one close to you here.

Every time Taylor and I get together to talk all things agriculture, we make sure to mention what’s in season. It is super important to know what’s in season so you can make intentional purchases that support our farmers. No matter how early we see pumpkin spice on everything, you’ll know when its REALLY pumpkin season! Speaking of which….make your own pumpkin spice latte at home with farm fresh milk and homemade pumpkin puree!

Why are Farmers’ Markets So Important?

Farmers’ Markets create a space for farmers to sell their goods directly to their consumers (that’s us!). This matters for several reasons. First, our farmers have more control over the freshness and availability of their products. Second, it creates a channel for us as consumers to connect directly with our farmers. Thirdly, farmers’ markets in Connecticut play a role in fresh & nutritious food accessibility. You can find more information about the Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) here. And finally, small and newer farms who may not be able to sell on a large scale yet rely on farmers’ markets to sell their goods. Farmers’ Markets create a space where emerging farms can grow and succeed.

CT Grown did an excellent job putting together information about FMNP and SNAP Farmers’ Market benefits. Click here to learn more.
