That’s right! Oftentimes, farms and producers want to share their love and knowledge to help bring agriculture into people’s homes. They do this by hosting workshops like: gardening classes, culinary classes, beekeeping classes, and daylong or weekend retreats where you can get hands-on experience of cooking and harvesting- a perfect gift for Mother’s Day!
CSA Membership!
In a previous blog, we talked about the importance of supporting your local farms by purchasing the “gift that keeps on giving-” CSAs! I know as a tired mom of two, my CSA credit card from Killam & Bassette has been a lifesaver. It is SO nice to be able to head to the farmstand and pick up whatever I need, whenever I want. For the more traditional CSA weekly pick-ups, moms wouldn’t even have to think about grocery shopping for the certain items that are provided weekly. It’s perfect! Send Food in the Mail!
It may sound too good to be true, but more and more CT Grown farms have embraced hosting online stores where you can have your food conveniently delivered or mailed! Some shellfish companies will deliver oysters that were caught on the same day. I’m sorry, what?! SO cool. Even more, some meat producers will travel locally to drop off coolers with steaks, and other farms will ship gift boxes with pears, apples, and more! Forget having to go pick things up, or go out to the store- what mom wouldn’t LOVE getting their food delivered right to their door?!
Fresh Cut Flowers!
Head on over to your local CT Grown greenhouse or nursery to pick up a variety of fresh cut flowers, enjoy a walk-through flower experience at various farms in CT to stroll through fields of flowers, or sign up for a cut flower CSA!
