Many of us strive for a healthier version of ourselves both mentally and physically. What could be a more fulfilling way to kick off your year than by joining a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program in Connecticut? This initiative not only supports local farmers but also encourages a healthier lifestyle through fresh, seasonal produce.
A Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program allows community members to support local farms by buying a share of the upcoming harvest. After purchasing a share, you’ll receive fresh produce on a weekly or biweekly schedule throughout the growing season.
CSAs are beneficial to both farmers and consumers. In purchasing a share in the upcoming harvest, you’re helping the farm’s cash flow for the season ahead, but it doesn’t end there! Personal Experience
Last season, I participated in the Killam & Bassette Farmstead CSA program by purchasing a full share CSA Credit Card, and had the BEST experience! Honestly - I think my four-year-old & six-year-old enjoyed it just as much as I did. I may, or may not have let them pick a sweet treat every time we went- their favorite? The homemade cupcakes!
I chose this program because of the flexibility of it. I know I am the kind of person who would end up wasting fresh produce if I had a big batch of products to pick up every week. The Killam & Bassette Credit Card is very similar to a gift card, so I knew I could just head on over to the farm stand when I pleased, which I love. It is seriously genius!
The farm stand itself is absolutely adorable and super easy to access right off the main road. Every time I go, the stand is fully stocked with the freshest produce, canned goods, meats, and more! I’ve never once left feeling disappointed. My favorite time of year to utilize my CSA Credit card was in the fall. Pumpkins, gourds, and mums, oh my! The fall decor was endless. I went back two or three times to stock up and my kids LOVED getting their pictures in the fun pumpkin stand!
They also have the most adorable gift shop that they open up before the holiday. There are SO many gifts to choose from (ornaments, blankets, soaps, cleaning supplies, recipe books- the list goes on and on!). You won’t be dissappointed!
