8 Ways to Incorporate CT Grown Tomatoes!

It’s July! Do you know what that means? Tomatoes are back in season until the end of October! According to the Farmers’ Almanac, there are thousands of varieties of tomatoes ranging in colors from red, pink, purple, orange, yellow, green, and even white! We’re here to share with you 8 ways you can incorporate CT Grown tomatoes this season.

  1. Salads - Incorporating tomatoes into your salads is a great way to utilize fresh tomatoes of any variety! Check out our Summer Salads blog to learn about some different salads that include tomatoes - one of the fan favorites being the simple caprese salad!

  2. Salsas - Looking for a good BBQ appetizer? Try using your CT Grown tomatoes in a salsa recipe! Here are some to try out:

    1. Fresh Salsa Recipe

    2. Fresh Blender Salsa

    3. Mexican Salsa

  3. Tomato Juice - Whether you love your tomato juice plain, or you’re looking to add it into a delicious, fresh Bloody Mary -yum- , try making your own here

  4. Ketchup - This may sound overwhelming at first and maybe something you’d initially say “no way” to, but give it a try! I found a recipe last year that was SO easy, very low in sugar, that my kids LOVED. Using fresh tomatoes to create a staple condiment like this is a must try!

  5. Eat Em’ Fresh - This is my personal favorite way to incorporate CT Grown tomatoes into my household. Nothing is better than just cutting up some slices of fresh, juicy tomatoes, sprinkling some salt on them, and bon appetit!

  6. Comfort Recipes - Once the weather starts cooling down, you may be craving some warmer comfort food. Incorporating CT Grown tomatoes into homemade Pasta Sauce or tomato soup is a perfect way to get that comfort fix!

  7. Freeze & Save - Tomatoes are great to freeze and store for later use. This way, there is no rush to use them up in season (especially if you’ve got some in bulk!). The most convenient part about freezing tomatoes is that you can freeze them in any form: pureed, sauced, diced, crushed, or whole! Check out more specific methods on freezing your tomatoes here.

8. Grow your own! - Head on over to a local farm, farmstand, or farmers market - some farms sell tomato plants along with many other types of vegetable plants. This way, you can bring CT Grown to your own backyard and grow your own tomatoes!

We hope you can try and incorporate GT Grown tomatoes into your every day lives this season. Good luck!
