Strawberry Season is in Full Swing!

It’s officially Strawberry season here in Connecticut! Don’t fret if you haven’t had a chance to get to your local farm to pick some delicious, ripe strawberries. It’s not too late to start picking, but the season is short, so visit your local strawberry farm as soon as possible!

Kids Corner by Molly!

Are you a mom struggling to get their child to eat fruits and veggies?! I know I sure am! Come along for the ride as I navigate healthy eating through local farmers markets with my 2 & 4 year old. I will share the farms, resources, activities, and recipes that worked for my kids in hopes that we can promote fun, healthy eating to our picky eaters!

This week, I took my two children -ages 2 & 4- strawberry picking at Dzen’s Tree Farm! I know what you’re thinking- that sounds exhausting!- but with the strawberry season nearing its end, I knew I had to take advantage and get the kids out. I was nervous that it would be slim picking, but I was pleasantly surprised with how many ripe, juicy strawberries they had left! Both kids had a BLAST walking -sometimes running- through the rows and rows of strawberries bushes. They even mastered picking the plumpest, reddest ones in the bushes!- Hurray for my 2-year old!- We spent about 30 minutes picking, which got us about 4 pounds of strawberries!

We immediately froze a couple pounds, saved some to eat fresh, and the rest we used for strawberry smoothies -yummmm!- Here is the quick, easy strawberry smoothie recipe we used. We added some sprinkles to the rim, because what kid doesn’t love a fun, colorful addition to a healthy treat. It was a DELICIOUS, cold treat for a warm, summer day! Enjoy!
