What’s it all about?

The Wethersfield Farmers Market began in 2008 with a goal to provide the town and community with locally made products and fresh produce. As it flourished, it became a staple in the community while attracting neighboring towns with its historical distinctiveness.  Click here to learn more about the history of the WFM!

Kid’s Corner with Molly:

Do you ever dread the hours after naptime, before dinner? Do you ever think to yourself, “what am I going to do with my kids until dinner?!” The hours seem to go by in slow motion. I know I’m guilty of the same two or three activities I do with my 2 and 4 year old. Park? Play outside? Pool time? That’s fine, but it gets predictable for the kids, which then leads to boredom- or chaos.  I wanted to spice things up a bit and take them to a place that was a little more exciting and stimulating for them.

Last week, I took my kids to the Wethersfield Farmers Market. To be completely honest, I was terrified as to what to expect. My kids (ages 2 and 4) can be a little unpredictable in public places- you know how that goes. Luckily, it was nothing but a wonderful experience for both them and I! The Wethersfield Farmers Market encourages families, children, and pets, which makes the experience that much better.

We kicked off the afternoon with some balloon art and face painting- unicorns & puppies anyone?! From there, the kids enjoyed some refreshing Italian ice from Chet’s Italian Ice- stained mango & blackberry clothes makes the experience more fun! Now that they were fully distracted and entertained, I was able to get some goodies for myself. This was “Chips & Salsa” week, so I naturally had to purchase some chips & salsa from Pan De Oro Torilla Chips. I paired that with a cider from Staehly Farms & Winery- because lets be honest, Mom & Dad need it! I had my 4 year old pick some fresh tomatoes, asparagus, and farm made strawberry jam from Killam & Bassette Farmstead. To end, we sat on the grass in the park and enjoyed the live music- well I sat, my kids kicked a ball around with some other kids- even better!

The next morning the kids were SO excited to have the strawberry jam they chose. They even took part in spreading the jam on their toast, which gave them all the more reason to eat their entire breakfast! I will definitely be taking my kids back to Wethersfield Farmers Market. Will I see you there?!
