NBC CT Live: Shop Local Farms in 2024!
Supporting Local Farms Can Help You Fulfill New Year’s Resolutions!
What are CSAs all about? Here’s a refresher!
CSAs are an investment you make in a farm before the growing season.
The acronym CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture.
How Do CSAs Work?
You pay money to the farmer before the growing and harvest season kicks off, between January - March, for a share in their crops and products. You can pay anywhere between $200 - $1,000, and get weekly produce from that farm during the ‘in-season’ timeframe.
By purchasing a CSA, you allow the farmer to pay for their seeds and other equipment, plan, and plant the amount of crops needed to fulfill CSA subscription customers and more.
Each year, many of us create goals and resolutions that sound great on paper that we are super excited for, and then when February rolls around, they seem to disappear. But don’t feel bad! Roughly 80% of New Year’s resolutions and goals fall short shortly after January.
BUT, you can set yourself up for success! CSAs are a way to keep you on track with your goals and keep yourself honest if your resolution is to eat healthier, quality foods.
By being a CSA subscription member, getting your weekly produce will help keep you accountable and align with your goals since the CT growing season starts around March!
If New Year’s resolutions aren’t your thing but you want to support your community and those farms within it, investing in a CSA helps. Unpredicatical weather events can wreak havoc on farmers and their crops; however, CSA subscription customers provide financial support early on, which helps farmers navigate through those tough times.
